In a new minute-long Instagram video, the King Richard actor answers a number of questions about that night.
He apologizes to Rock again and talks about how it affected Rock's family.
Smith says that it took him so long to apologize to Rock because he was so tired at the time.
"Nothing is clear. I tried to get in touch with Chris, but he told me he wasn't ready to talk. When he's ready, he'll reach out."
Smith says, "I'm here whenever you want to talk," and then he apologizes to Rock's mother and brother, Tony Rock.
"That was one thing that happened at that time. "I just didn't understand,"
Smith says. "At the time, I wasn't thinking about how many people were hurt.
